Officer Responsibilities

The following provides a general outline of the duties of ASABE committee officers. Always follow bylaws for specific responsibilities, which can vary among committees. Click here (login required) to find resources for committee management.

Chair 

• Draft meeting agendas and distribute to the committee 30 days in advance.
• Preside over meetings and ensure minutes are recorded and distributed.
• Report committee actions to other committees as required in bylaws.
• Monitor and encourage progress on action items.
• Communicate promptly and regularly with other committee members, officers, committees, and headquarters staff.
• Provide an updated committee roster to ASABE headquarters.

Vice Chair 

• Assist the chair as needed.
• Preside at the meeting in the absence of the chair.
• Report committee actions to other committees as required by bylaws.
• In the absence of a secretary, record and distribute meeting minutes.
• Plan technical sessions at ASABE meetings and conferences (technical committees only)

Secretary 

• Record meeting minutes and distribute within 30 days of the meeting.
• Assist and serve the chair and vice chair as necessary.

Past Chair

• Lead recruitment and reconfirmation of committee members.
• Assist and serve the chair and vice chair as necessary.
